The short version
- We don't track you across other sites.
- We don't sell your data.
- We only collect what's needed to run the service.
- You can delete your data anytime — email us and we will.
Who we are
Fuel Path is an independent service. It is not a registered company. The data controller under UK GDPR is the operator of Fuel Path. Contact: info@fuelpath.co.uk.
What we collect
Always — anyone visiting the site
- Postcodes and addresses you type into the search box. These are sent to postcodes.io and/or Nominatim to look up coordinates. We don't store them.
- Coordinates of the route you request. These are sent to OpenRouteService to compute the road geometry. We don't keep them.
- Standard server logs — your IP address, browser user agent, request time, and HTTP status — kept for up to 30 days, then rotated out. This is how every web server works; it's how we keep the service running and catch abuse.
Stored in your browser, never on our server
- Vehicle MPG and fill size.
- Sort preference, filter state, recent searches.
All of this lives in your browser's localStorage. We don't read it back to our server. Clearing your browser data wipes it.
What we don't collect
- No third-party analytics — no Google Analytics, no Plausible, no Mixpanel, nothing.
- No tracking pixels.
- No social media buttons that phone home.
- No fingerprinting.
Cookies and similar
- localStorage: your settings, saved in your browser. Never sent to us.
- AdSense (with your consent): Google sets advertising cookies if you accept them via the cookie banner. You can decline — ads stop loading. You can change your mind anytime in the cookie settings link in the footer.
Third parties we share data with
We minimise this list deliberately.
- postcodes.io — sends partial UK postcodes for autocomplete. Open-data service operated by Ideal Postcodes.
- Nominatim (OpenStreetMap Foundation) — sends address text you type for geocoding.
- OpenRouteService — sends route waypoint coordinates to compute road geometry.
- OpenFreeMap — sends tile coordinates to render the map. No address data.
- Google AdSense — with your consent only.
We don't sell, rent, or trade your data with anyone, ever.
How long we keep things
- Server logs: up to 30 days, then rotated out.
- Anything else: we don't store any personal data beyond logs. Settings live in your browser's localStorage.
Your rights under UK GDPR
You can ask us to:
- Show you what data we hold about you (access).
- Correct anything that's wrong (rectification).
- Delete your data (erasure).
- Stop processing it (objection).
- Send you a copy in a portable format (portability).
Email info@fuelpath.co.uk. We respond within 30 days, usually faster.
You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office if you think we've handled your data badly.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use after that counts as accepting the changes.
